This is Peng Shuilin, who nearly 13 years ago had his body sliced in half by a freight truck.
Peng who measures only 78cm, was discovered in two pieces after a road accident in the town of Shenzhen in 1995.
Doctors were convinced that they could save him. The lower half of his body was beyond saving but, after a series of operations, his bottomless torso was sew-up. Skin grafts were then used from his head to his underside to keep his organs alive and away from outside exposure.
It took months of him lying horizontal to build up the strength it needed for his body to contain his organs. He then went onto build up the strength in his arms to aid in his mobility.
The Doctors at the China Rehabilitation Research Centre attached bionic legs to a special casting to help Mr Peng walk again. Along with other mobility aids, he now manages most everyday activities to live his life as near to an able-bodied person as is possible.
