A woman in Leeds who suffers from chronic flatulence and who was said to be teased relentlessly, has lost her discrimination claim.
The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons but worked at Leeds Metropolitan University claimed she was subjected to cruel jibes from staff because she suffered from severe irritable bowel syndrome.
One of her colleagues said “She opens the window because she sits there and stinks the place out - we shouldn’t have to put up with it.”
Windy Miller, claimed disability and racial discrimination against the University, as well as constructive dismissal. She told the hearing that her colleagues would make sniffing noises and “bowel jokes” when she was in earshot. I bet they made a lot more when she wasn’t!
Disciplinary proceedings against her were because of her quality of work and increased sickness absences.
The three members on the tribunal panel dismissed all three of her claims, a spokesman for Leeds Employment Tribunal said.
